IRIDOLOGY is the analysis of the iris, the coloured disk of the eye.  It is often wrongly referred to as diagnosis.  To diagnose is to put a name to your disease, but as Hippocrates said, it’s more important to know the person that has the

disease, than to know the disease the person has.  Iridology is thought to show us the individual constitution and can highlight the pathway to ill-health, alert us to our hidden threats, reveal our strengths, and thereby illuminate our true potential for self-healing.

Holistic Iridology works on the premise that all aspects of a person’s experience and life are interlinked and therefore mutually dependent.  On a physiological level, there is no organ that does not depend upon the correct function of all other organs in order to be healthy. On a psychological and emotional level, our thoughts and feelings about life, ourselves, and our level of health, are crucial in determining the outcome of any treatment plan.  The Holistic Iridologist works to integrate a comprehensive understanding of one’s health patterns by reference to individual constitution (strengths and weaknesses), lifestyle choices, and emotional responses.  A consultation in Holistic Iridology is like life-counselling, or life-coaching: it aims to inspire and empower you to make the best choices possible for your health.  The fundamental premise is that there is no problem that you can have that does not also present you with an opportunity.

The theoretical basis for Iridology rests on the proposition that the iris is a genetically derived pattern, which can reveal familial health traits and susceptibilities. Although in the UK Iridology is not recognised in orthodox medicine, in some countries it is highly regarded as a diagnostic aid, and its effectiveness has been rated as being between 70 and 80 percent accurate.  Recent research in embryology and genetic science has also begun to identify links between the development of the iris in utero, and emotional and personality traits that manifest later in life.  Emerging evidence from medical research shows that our thoughts and emotions may have a significant, perhaps crucial role to play in determining health patterns, and this may be one explanation for the accuracy of Iridology findings.

Iridologists use specialist equipment in order to magnify and photograph the iris, but this is an entirely painless, non-invasive process, using a fibre-optic light source.  Usually the image will then be displayed on a screen and you will have the relevant features pointed out to you.  Most patients find the process enlightening and fascinating.

An Iridology examination is designed both to give you information about your constitutional health patterns, and to suggest ways forward in self-help health care.  In our practice we also make an assessment of the energetic, behavioural and emotional influences on your health.
